30.  Two Sides of the Same Coin - What Merlin and Arthurs friendship means to me

To put it simply, they are soulmates.  I love how they started out practically hating each other, Arthur was a bully, Merlin only saw him as a prat and would never have wanted to help him.  But slowly and surely, their relationship developed to the point where they would die for each other in a heartbeat.  Merlins magic had meaning, he used it to protect his friend, to make sure he got to the throne of Camelot safely, to begin the Golden Age that has always been destined to be ruled by Arthur.  And Arthur always saw something special in his servant, something more, something unexplainable and he grew to respect Merlin for all the times he helped him.  It took a while to reach the point where he would genuinely call Merlin his friend even though Arthur had been desperately fond of him anyway, to say the words to Merlin was a beautiful moment and showed just how far they had come.  I love that they have such a fantastic banter with each other, they make each other laugh like no-one else does!  They know what the other is thinking without needing any words and there is such a deep bond between them that will last for all time.  Arthur may or may not know about Merlins magic, but what he knows for certain is just how brave and loyal Merlin is and in some ways this is more important because he has seen a lot of what Merlin has sacrificed for him and it comes down to the basic fact that he loves Merlin and Merlin loves Arthur (it doesn’t have to mean romantically but they DO love each other)  Merlins whole life seems to have already been written for him, yet he has found his soulmate, albeit through destiny, and his dedication to protect Arthur has made Arthurs life his own. He cares so much for his King and wants to see him become the man of legend and Arthur would not get there without Merlin because their destinies are entwined together. They truly are one soul and there is nothing more beautiful than that.

My 30 Day Merlin challenge is over now :(  I have really enjoyed doing it though! :)  Some of the answers were hard to choose and I cheated a lot lol!! XD
