20.  Favourite friendship (outside Merlin and Arthur!)

This is a hard choice because I adore Merlins friendships with 3 different people, Gwen, Lancelot and Gwaine.  I love Merlins friendship with Gwen because it is sweet and caring and funny!  I love the little moments where Gwen would smile at Merlin if Arthur said something nice about him or gently prod him because she knew how much it meant to him.  I love how she would stick up for Merlin but also how Merlin would look out for her, his concern in ‘The Castle of Fyrien’ when he saw Gwen upset and her bruises was incredibly kind and I love that they both have such big hearts.  Gwen is so kind and when she sat with Merlin when Gaius was missing it was such a lovely moment that she was there for her friend.  I must say the earlier series are probably my favourites of Merlin and Gwen because everything was still quite innocent and sweet.  I also love Merlins friendship with Gwaine :)  Gwaine looks out for Merlin, helps him, makes him laugh, is loyal and genuine and I loved the Eye of the Phoenox episode and the scene where Gwaine reveals he is doing this to help Merlin because he is his friend it makes me squee everytime it is so cute!!  Plus Gwaine is kinda like the fun friend that Merlin can hang out with and not get told off for being naughty!!  Whenever Gwaines around something fun will happen but also because Gwaine is brave and loyal it makes him a great friend to Merlin and the lovely scene THAT WAS DELETED GAH when he and Merlin spoke about his father and Gaius was just amazing plus Gwaine was not allergic to hugs like Arthur!!  Though Arthur is now cured of this thank goodness!!!  I must quickly mention I do not consider Gaius as a friend because he is more than that, he is like Merlins father so I won’t include Gaius here.  I think the friendship between Lancelot and Merlin is perfect.  Not only because Lancelot OMG JUST REALISED I HAVE TO TYPE THIS IN PAST TENSE *SOBS* knew about Merlins magic, but he saw everything he did for Arthur, he saw Merlins bravery before a lot of others and he looked out for him.  I love that Merlin could be free with Lancelot and how Lancelot was so wonderfully accepting of Merlins powers.  My favourite scenes had to be when Lancelot said that Merlin should be the one to get knighted, that he was ‘the bravest of us all’ I thought that was beautiful.  I also liked the banter they had and in the darkest hour when Merlin used magic to clean Arthurs shirt it was a really funny scene!  I also loved that Lancelot took Merlin when he was ill and he genuinely cared so much for him.  I think he really admired Merlin because of his bravery and loyalty to Arthur and Merlin was so grateful to have a friend he didn’t have to have secrets with.  IT RIPPED MY HEART OUT when the shade Lancelot had gone and Merlin briefly brought back his friend before he died.  So Merlin and Lancelot is my choice :)
